Brooklyn Bridge

It feels like anything but a bridge.

The pedestrian walkway made of wooden planks floating over the vehicles and the water, appears like a boardwalk at the beach but without the hotdogs and cotton candy.

The tall narrow space leading up to the gothic piers between the suspension cables feels like an outdoor cathedral.

With the plaques on the bridge, reading them you remember it as a place of historical significance.

It looks like kind of a spooky threshold into this mythical city of Manhattan. It's old and needs repair but will always remind me in its distinctively charming way, where I am and where I'm going to.

evening view

It almost seems as if the city glows when it is standing still. But it never is still. The camera doesn't see the noise, cars whizzing by on the street below, giggling teenagers posing in front of the view, all the people shoving you out of the way, aromas spilling out of the restaurants and seeping from the subway, and the cold air that's even colder at night.

City dogs

Being a dog in New York City is more complicated. The dog I had as a kid growing up in Iowa chased squirrels, barked at strangers and pooped in the neighbor's yard. Dogs here need to find an apartment that accepts them, dog walkers if their owners can't walk them, parks and dog runs they can play in and someone to pick up their poop. But they also have fashionable dog clothing and accessories, gourmet dog food, dog spas and dog therapists. Then imagine getting all that without having to pay for it! I think dogs love New York too.

Times Square

Crowds, tacky souvenir shops and billboards. That about sums ups Times Square for me.

I've never been there on New Year's Eve. I think the only difference on that day would be not being able to get out of it.
